Obama Hates Cops
I recently became Facebook friends with a dude who graduated with my sister. He posted this strange account on his profile that must be read in its entirety:
For those of you who know me, I rarely talk Politics.
Those are private matters for the most part, but I just have to vent a little.
I would call myself a conservative as 99% of Policeman are, and almost always vote Republican, but I also know that they are all Politicians.
We are stuck in a quagmire of a two party system and the non politician, independent has no chance to change this country or run this country.
I am not trying at all to dissuade your vote, but Obama has really cheesed me off. I have read a few articles and have heard that he does not support anyone in uniform. That goes from our Military to our
Police and probably the Girl Scouts and Boy Scouts for all I know. I have heard these stories of Obama making the Police and Secret Service (who protect his dumb butt) stay out of his eye sight.Well, I learned it well Thursday October 9th. Michelle Obama was in Clinton Twp. Mi Thursday for a rally at our biggest High School. My department had a small role in protecting her. About 8 Officers were detailed to the School for HER security. I was offered the overtime but turned it down.
One of my Sergeants, and best buddies was assigned there. He came back infuriated. The rumors are true!!!
My Sergeant was providing security in a hallway as Mrs Obama was moving from room to room for different reasons. He was told by the SS that when she came down his hall, he had to duck behind the corner and not allow her to see him. He questioned this several times to be sure he heard it right, and the SS agent (embarrassed of course) had to hide from her view too.
It is outrageous that the persons running for the President of our country on the Democrat ic side, has so much disdain for men and woman in uniform, they demand that they are kept from their view!!!!!!!!!!!!!!
Lets be clear. This was not in the public. This was not a Honor Guard detail standing behind her on stage in front of thousands. This was in a hallway, out of the public eye, and the Obama’s refuse to even see an Officer or Soldier in their view. The Police have to hide!!!!!!!
WHY???????????? That’s the scary question! What else is going on here?
No wonder he refuses to wear the flag on his suit or salute the flag. It will be a terrible day if Obama is elected to run our country I love so much.
It is so sad that these people are the few who we have to choose from for the most powerful position in the world!!!!!!!!!

I already heard about this straight from the mouths of the Michigan State Police that are on their Motor Unit. They were told to ‘hide’ behind the bus when Obama exited it so that he couldn’t see them. Our (the Macomb County Sheriff’s Office) Motor Unit, along with the State Police, escorted McCain when he was in town, and we were right out front, where we could proudly be seen. I don’t know how you think, but the only people I have known in my career that don’t want to be seen near cops are criminals….thats scary!

What?!? Just … what?!? This dude’s trying to say that Michelle Obama made him hide from her sight because he’s a police officer? Why in the world would the Obamas want the very people who are going to protect their lives to hide? This story does not adhere to the basic principles of logic.
What’s really terrifying to me is that all of a sudden, now that I’m Facebook friends with this dude, I’m reading what real conservatives are saying … and it’s scary. Earlier today this guy wrote in a response to another old classmate, regarding Obama: “Something is clearly not right with this man and I pray he does not make it to office. This country will change if he wins, and I am certain it will NOT be for the better. “
I mean, aside from the fact that I don’t really know how the country can possibly change for the worse at this point, the statement “something is clearly not right with this man” is pretty chilling. He’s implying that Barack Obama is either less than human or some kind of crazy Manchurian candidate. How do people who think like this manage to hold jobs? This is lunacy!
Update: I have written to the Clinton Township police to see what they have to say about this rumor. From what I can tell, there is no officer named “D. Abbott” in the Clinton Township police department, but that’s just from a basic Google search. Michelle Obama did definitely visit a Clinton Township high school on Thursday, September 30th. I’ll report back when or if I hear from them.
Update II: The Clinton Township police sent me the following response this morning:
The story and email that appeared on ABC.com did not come from any member of the Clinton Twp Police Dept. Apparently there is an email circulating that purports to come from a member of the local Police Dept. where one or both of the Obama’s are speaking. The email changes only the location of the occurrence when it is sent out.

I’m not sure what the ABC.com part has to do with anything. I did a search on ABC News and didn’t come up with this story. It is, however, all over the web, copied from an article at some woman named Debbie Schlussel’s website. She went to the University of Michigan and her name sounds really familiar … I wonder if I know her. I haven’t yet seen the article being attributed to any other Michigan police department … I wish I could, because I’d LOVE to post it on my new BFF’s Facebook page and be all, “suck it!” This has GOT to be a hoax.
Update III: From the comments — now there’s ANOTHER “the Obamas hate cops” rumor, also set in Michigan, also involving cops having to hide. This time, however, it’s Barack who’s telling them to get lost. Daily Kos blogger Happy Camper wrote about it right here. (Thanks for the tip, McCarron!)

Snopes doesn’t have anything yet in an “Obama police” or “Obama uniform” search. It’s just so weird. Let’s assume the story’s true for a moment. How does “duck out of the way” become “these people can’t stand to see a uniform?” My guess: Secret Service didn’t vet these police, these police were armed, they were therefore not allowed (by the Secret Service) to be somewhere where they have a clean shot. That makes at LEAST as much sense to me as the assumption that it’s because the Obamas don’t like to see uniforms.
So very, very strange.

Yeah, my first impulse was that whoever wrote this — or rather, whoever heard it … note that this story did not happen to the person who wrote the email, but one of his “fellow officers” — was told to stay out of Michelle Obama’s way because he was incompetent, not because Michelle cared about him. My officemate Brendan said it might have something to do with not scaring the Obama kids or the high school kids. But actually, it’s probably just a tremendous lie. Honestly, if the Obamas didn’t allow cops to be seen by them, wouldn’t we have heard about it by now? This is just ludicrous.

Lunacy? Really, Jeff? I realize that it’s SHOCKING that Republicans in Clinton F-ing Michigan might have suspicions of Obama, but don’t let it give you the vapors, dude. Let’s look at the situation:
Some kneejerk conservative opines that “something is clearly not right with this man (Obama)” Your first instinct at this “chilling” statement is to wonder how this man can even hold down a job? Is this seriously the first time you’ve ever heard this sentiment about a political candidate? I’ve heard it about 200 times about McCain just this month (though I’m inclined to agree with it in his case.)
This isn’t chilling. It isn’t even that offensive. It’s some dude saying “I don’t know what it is, but a just don’t like the guy.” This is what is known as an ‘opinion’ and yes, they’re like assholes — you can’t surf the internet without stumbling across a few engorged ones. This particular one isn’t really all that shocking, though, or even uncommon, and as a former hick like myself I figured you’d recognize that.
There is a lot of ‘lunacy’ in this campaign to be outraged about. The fact that some podunk cop in Clinton distrusts the Democratic candidate and repeats some bullshit story his shift commander told him on Facebook does not quite qualify, though.

I’m saying, it’s lunacy to think that Obama is a secret Muslim who hates the police and refuses to wear a flag pin because he hates America. That’s crazy! Come on, dude! That’s freaking batshit insane! Now, you can believe the person telling the story probably doesn’t really believe it … but that relies on an assumption that is nowhere to be found in the story itself. If a dude believes that a person could become a presidential candidate and refuse to let a police officer be seen in his presence, that is a dude who does not live on the same plane of reality as you and I.
I’ve seen plenty of people say McCain’s out of his gourd, that’s for sure, but I’ve yet to see a left-wing blog just totally make shit up about him, or suggest that he’s going to destroy this country from the inside. And you’re right, the two lines I quoted aren’t particularly chilling … what I should’ve said is that through this guy’s posts, I started reading some of the anti-Obama shit on right-wing blogs, and that’s what struck me as chilling. I mean, there are people out there who listen to guys like Michael Savage and believe it, and then go shoot up a Unitarian church because they think liberals are trying to destroy the country from the inside. I just don’t see that kind of character on our side of the debate.
I think we believe McCain would be a shitty president, but there are dudes out there on the right wing who think Obama is the anti-Christ.

I whole-heartedly agree that the Obama-as-Muslim-Baby-Killer storylines are batshit insane. Well, duh. The point I’m trying to make is that ‘D. Abbott’ never said anything even close to that. He expressed some mild distrust of the opposing party’s candidate, and this somehow implied that he considers Obama a sub-human mongoloid Al Qaeda sleeper agent. Maybe this guy has expressed radical nutjob slurs in other posts, but all-in-all his sentiment as presented here is pretty benign.
I’ll admit that it IS pretty shocking to venture beyond our TPM/HuffPo/DailyKos echo chamber into the scary world of rightwing nutjob blogs. I think I was just surprised that, of all the ridiculous slander I’ve heard this year, THIS was the somehow the guy that really offended your sensibilities. Try reading Redstate/NRO/FreeRepublic on a regular basis. Better yet, just start watching Fox News. As painful as it is, it should be required viewing for all liberals. Only when I started watching Fox (#1 news channel in America) did I truly realize the fight we’re up against (a fight that is far from over.)
I’ll agree that a preponderance of the nutjobs these days are appearing on the right. Our side is not without it’s share, though. I saw many of the identical Obama slanders on pro-Hillary blogs back in March. DailyKos spent a week trying to prove that ‘Joe the Plumber’ was secretly related to the one of the Keating Five. And let’s not even start on the 911Truth weirdos. There’s idiots pretty much anywhere you want to look. The real scary thing is realizing that us non-idiots are well on our way to evolving ourselves out of existence. Everybody fuck more, please!

My favorite part is that we’re both probably drinking alone in our apartments a half mile away from each other and communicating by commenting on my blog.

I’ll still back the rest of my rant, though. People like this are a dime-a-dozen. That’s what’s chilling.

This message is totally different than the one posted on DKos and Snopes, although they’re both set in Michigan, and they both have to do with the Obamas snubbing cops. Come on, Scooby gang!
