Gloat Day
As predicted, Obama won by a landslide. And as predicted, the liberal blogs are both excited and practical, taking care to mention that we have a lot of work ahead of us.
Well, I say screw the work ahead of us for the time being. For one day, let’s just gloat. The conservatives spent the last 8 years making all of us who cared about human rights, the principles of the Constitution, privacy, and the environment feel like powerless traitors. And for all of us who spent the last 8 years gritting our teeth and tearing our hair out, I think we deserve just one day to turn to our fellow Republicans and say, “FUUUUUUUUCCCCCCKKKKKKKK YOUUUUUUUUU.”
We can get back to being the party of reality, rationality, and optimism tomorrow. Today, I think we’ve earned the right to be dicks.

Eh. I take advantage of that right every day.

How exactly have you earned the right to be a dick? How does that work? By opposing a specific administration you have the right to treat a group of people with disdain? Aren’t equality and unity pillars of the Democratic paradigm? What about those of us who consider ourselves moderatley conservative but have been horrified where our party has gone? Maybe we should drop all this partisan bullshit and reach a hand across the aisle and just ask each other how we can make our country a better place for everyone to live. /Steps down off of his soapbox/

Well, luckily, I have no control over anything in this world and no one reads my blog. So I still reserve my right to take one day to gloat, although this gloating is happening in exactly two places: in this blog post and in my mind, because I don’t actually know anyone to gloat to. I will cease my gloating tomorrow and reach across the aisle to all my conservative brothers and sisters. Today, I am a cock.

For me, gloating consists entirely of, for one day, not being super nice when some conservative dick makes a comment about the evil the Obama administration will bring to America. Tomorrow I’ll mostly ignore them; today, fuck off you morons and learn what the fuck “socialism” means!

I was brave enough to post victory images on my blog, which is read by the scary conservative stamping world. I probably have no more readers now. I DON’T CARE!!!!!!!!!!

I think it’s fair to offer a hearty Fuck You to those McCain supporters who were booing Obama during John’s concession speech. I’d like to reach across the aisle and punch those fucknuts in their own asscaves.
Unfortunately they had to take away the cherry on top with Proposition 8, but I guess you can’t have it all.

Gloat Day is now officially over. See, Cassidy, it wasn’t that bad!
And as my first stretch at reaching across the aisle, I will say that I admire you, Jeff Cassidy, for calling yourself a moderate conservative. At our age, (and especially living in Ann Arbor), that implies to me that you’ve actually taken the time to think about your political views instead of just going the easy route and saying, “I don’t like George Bush, and therefore I’m a Democrat.” Personally, I don’t think the Democratic party as it stands is any great shakes, and I’d happily support a viable third option. But they are much closer to my political views than the current Republicans, so they’ve secured my vote for the time being. And even if Barack’s nothing more than a superstar, I still love him and want to have his babies.

My problem, as with most people I assume, is that I don’t lean too far one way or the other. I don’t agree with abortion or stem cell research, however I think you should be able to marry whomever you want! I think we should be fiscally conservative but everybody has a right to good health care. How do I define myself politically? In our antequated two party system, 49% of the population has gotten lost in the shuffle. It’s a cycle that will only end when people educate themselves and quit voting for the person they see the most on t.v. I’m not altogether certain Barack Obama is the best person to lead this country, especially after naming Rahm Emanuel his Chief of Staff, but I think with him as our Commander-in-Chief our soldiers will be out of Iraq in less than 24 months. If McCain is president we might not be out and I might get called to go back, so that’s the one issue that I based my vote on, and unfortunately that’s become too frequent. We shouldn’t have to choose between two candidates based on one issue. Positive dialogue and comprimise is the only way forward, unfortunately for the past 8 years, we’ve had right wing nutjobs from Texas in the White House and positive dialogue has been non-existent because W is “The Decider”. Thanks for reaching across the aisle, Dinsmore. I’m reaching back.
