I don’t know the first thing about Evil Nine, but I do know that I saw this semi-video and immediately downloaded their entire album from iTunes. That is what someone with good taste should do when encountering this semi-video for the first time. I will report back with my observations.

Ya’ know … it’s become cliche, but I sure can’t understand why someone who supported the war wouldn’t serve. I don’t support it, and I would never in a million years serve. So I’m safe from charges of hypocrisy, I guess.

Aspy sent me a link to a video on YouTube called “Vagina Power vs. Penis Power.” It had been taken down by the user. I did some investigating, and I’m pretty sure this is what he was directing me to. I haven’t gotten through the whole thing yet, but my eyes have already been opened. Not safe for work. Let’s be honest … you probably don’t work, anyway.

Before Sarah and I left New York, Sarah and her roommate Leah had a party for three Iraqis who were visiting the states. Leah freelanced for a company called Chat the Planet that was putting together a series about college students in Iraq. The guys came over to talk about their experiences and meet with some “normal” Americans. I didn’t spend much time with them, but I was surprised by how little their opinions and manner of communicating differed from ours. Of course, they were speaking English, so I’m sure that helped.

Now, the series is finally going live, and it’s fascinating. The first three episodes are live at the Hometown Baghdad website, and apparently there are more than 40 episodes to come. It’s the first thing I’ve seen showing what life is like for ordinary Iraqis. I think it’s an incredibly important show that all Americans should see. It’s hard to empathize when you see footage on the news which invariably makes Iraq look like a terrifying place filled with miserable people, but this series demonstrates that a lot of people in the country are just trying to get by amid devastating circumstances.

Happy Day After Valentine’s Day! Last night Sarah and I attended a Valentine’s Day workshop called “Feel the Love” at this gallery called Machine Project in Echo Park. It was put together by Sarah and a couple of her friends from the Sundown Schoolhouse. Sarah gave a brief intro, and then we spent the rest of the night eating and crawling around on the floor and drinking wine and learning about massage and CPR. These are the kinds of things we do in Los Angeles on Valentine’s Day.

Anyway, whenever I spend some time without writing, I like to do a little thing called “linking to videos.” It makes me feel like I’m devoting time to you without actually having to do anything.

1. Here’s Larry the Cable Guy before he was Larry the Cable Guy. Refreshingly milquetoast!

2. Terrorists planning the Mooninite fiasco. I have been cracking up about this pretty much nonstop since I first saw it.

3. Fox News has a new right-wing Daily Show. Here’s why this will never work: CONSERVATIVES AREN’T FUNNY. Painful. Incredibly, excruciatingly painful.

Words cannot do justice to the genius of this performance.

Donnie Davies: Matt turned me on to this last week. If I was a good little blogger I would have posted it immediately, but I am not. By now, you’ve probably seen it. Here’s the synopsis: dude records a song called “God Hates Fags.” A web search reveals that he has a few different websites promoting his “C.H.O.P.S.” program (Changing Homosexuals into Ordinary People) and his “Love God’s Way” ministry. Seemingly, however, the dude didn’t exist before last week.

I assumed it was some kind of marketing thing, but the Internets are still abuzz with people who think it’s real. You can judge for yourself. Start at the bottom of the link above and work your way up. To me, his acting, dialogue, and writings seem more stilted than a Christopher Guest character, but maybe you’ll have a different opinion.

Greg Kotis in LA Times: This is the best thing I’ve read about writing, maybe ever, by the guy who created Urinetown. I cut this article out of the newspaper so that I can save it for posterity. That’s a lie. I didn’t cut it out yet. I did save it from recycling, though, which should count for something.
